IKEA 51

00/51

This series originates from a long-term pattern of use.

Since 2019, I have continuously lived across different spaces, repeatedly purchasing, assembling, and replacing furniture and components from IKEA. Over time, these standardized objects became embedded in my everyday environment. Gradually, they also entered my artistic practice.

The first instance occurred during my undergraduate degree show, where IKEA components were introduced into an installation. Since then, they have continued to appear across different works and exhibitions, taking on varying roles. They function not only as material, but also as a structural logic within the work.

IKEA 51 formalizes this ongoing process into a series.

In each work, at least one IKEA object or component is used. Removed from its original function as furniture, it is reorganized within a new context as part of an installation.

The number 51 does not indicate a fixed total, but derives from an approximation. Over the past years, I have used no fewer than fifty IKEA objects. The additional 1 operates as an extension, an open element that resists closure.

The series unfolds through a numbered structure.
00 marks the point of departure.
